Springtime represents a major transition from winter’s cold, static Yin energy to warm, active Yang energy. Associated with the Wood element, this season focuses on growth, renewal, and upward, outward movement.

The liver is intimately linked to eye health, both in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where it controls ocular nourishment and vision, and in Western medicine, where it manages Vitamin A storage, metabolism, and detoxification. Liver dysfunction often manifests as dry eyes, blurry vision, or yellowing.

As we embrace the yang-driven season of springtime we also need to consider grounding and rooting to the earth, an essential consideration, especially to those who have a yang energy in their natural personality, as it helps balance the rapid, upward energy of the season with stability and calm. While spring brings a natural urge to move forward, expand, and be active, this surge of yang energy can easily lead to overstimulation, frustration, or burnout if not properly anchored.

Why You Need to Ground in Spring:

  • Balancing Rising Yang: Spring (Wood Element) is about explosive growth and rising energy, while grounding connects you to the steadying Earth Element, ensuring you don't overexert yourself.

  • Preventing "Overdrive": High-energy yang can turn into excessive stress and, irritation." Grounding reduces this restlessness and helps maintain emotional balance.

  • Reconnecting after Winter: After months of being indoors and inactive, grounding directly to the Earth recharges your body, restores circadian rhythms, and lowers cortisol.

  • Releasing Excess Energy: Grounding allows your body to release built-up positive free radicals and absorb negative electrons from the Earth, which helps decrease inflammation and fatigue.

During class we will work on eye health and grounding exercises to help prepare us for the season ahead.
