Bandon Hill Primary School

Bandon Hill Primary School is based in Wallington, Surrey and offers regular wellbeing workshops for their children and parents; including child anxiety, resilience and emotional regulation sessions.

In the winter of 2025 the school introduced a tai chi/ chi kung pilot programme, helping children to regulate their emotions through mindful movement and guided meditation.

Every child regulates in a different way, have their own unique list of challenges and their own way of dealing with them.  The great thing about mindful movement is that it is 'one size fits all', allowing the same movements to benefit each child in a way they need it.

We were able to quantify the results of the pilot workshop by using the 'zones of regulation' framework. Children often showing an improvement in their emotion from the time they arrived till the end of the session.

The programme was a great success, and in Jan 2026 it was decided by the school that more sessions are needed, to reach as many children as possible.

In Spring of 2026 the 'Mindful - Movement - Matters' initiative begins.

The Programme

The 'Mindful Movement Matters' programme ran over 6 consecutive weeks, using the same children, enabling us to monitor the improvements in their emotion over the weeks.  We were lucky to have this take place over the Christmas season in 2026, a challenging time for many.

The magic carpet ride to Lapland with the candy cane scene was a real hit with the children. Watching them lick their lips to the idea of a fudge cake bed and candy floss blanket was a joy.
